If your wife was recently diagnosed with liver cancer and has begun chemotherapy treatment sessions, your loved one is likely scared about her condition and not is feeling well at times. Show your undying devotion and help your partner through this difficult time with the steps that follow.
Hire An Aide
If your wife has been bedridden for several days and her doctor has advised against her completing household chores or cooking meals, hiring an in home care aide, such as from Neighbors Home Care Services, will benefit both of you. Instead of being preoccupied with duties that need to be handled, you will have more time to spend with your partner.
Even if your loved one doesn't feel well enough to talk or participate in an activity, she will appreciate you spending time with her by sitting by her bed or by reading her a story or poem. The aide will remind your loved one when it is time to take her medication and will monitor your wife's condition to ensure that she isn't running a fever or becoming dehydrated.
If the aide will be preparing meals on a routine basis, ask them if they can prepare a special meal for you and your partner and surprise your loved one on a day that she is feeling better by having the meal delivered to her bedroom and setting up a small table to dine at.
Encourage Your Partner To Join A Support Group
A support group that is designed for people who currently have cancer or who have gone into remission can help your wife feel as if she is not alone. During support group meetings, your partner will learn about ways that other people are dealing with cancer and instances in which some people have beat the odds and are now able to live healthy, happy lives.
Contact your wife's doctor to inquire about support groups in the community or seek a support group on your own by visiting a community center nearby. Attend meetings with your loved one if she would prefer you to and encourage your loved one to contact her new friends whenever she would like to talk to someone about how she is currently feeling.
Take The Time To Appreciate The Little Things
Demonstrate the importance of living each day to the fullest by telling your partner jokes, looking at pictures together, or surprising your loved one with a small memento. Although it can be frightening to not know what the future holds, it is vital that your loved one learn to make the most of each day and not dwell on what may or may not happen down the road. The time spent together sharing simple pleasures will provide both of you with fond memories and a bond that won't be likely to break.
